Get Active Challenge

Get Active ChallengeThe Get Active Challenge was a 10-week program targeting men’s health and physical activity levels, based in Victorian workplaces.

It was all about encouraging men to get active by increasing their levels of physical activity – whether on their own, in a group, with friends or with their family.

In 2007, the Get Active Challenge operated as a pilot in six workplaces in the building/construction and manufacturing sectors.

The findings from this pilot will form the basis of a broader roll out of men's health initiatives in the coming years.

If you are interested in participating in your own Get Active Challenge all of the resources are available online.

Why should men get active?
  • Men are significantly more likely than women to be overweight or obese.
  • Men are more likely than women to be diagnosed with diabetes.
  • Men have an estimated incidence of coronary heart disease twice that of females.
  • Men are less likely than women to self-report their health status as ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’.
Regular physical activity is associated with the reduction in the incidence of many serious illnesses such as cardiovascular and coronary (heart) disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers.
