Professionals Home > Active living > Activity type > Incidental/Recreational Activity > Programs > Be Active Eat Well Be Active Eat Well The Be Active Eat Well BAEW (Colac) project (2002-2005) was the initial project within the Barwon Sentinel Site for Obesity Prevention. The project aimed to promote healthy eating and physical activity behaviours and reduce unhealthy weight gain in children aged 4-12 years in the rural Australian town of Colac. It used a multi-setting, multi-strategy approach and was based on community capacity building principles. The Colac project was successful in reducing unhealthy increases in children’s weight and waist measurement. This was the first such evidence that whole-of-community programs in Australia can have an impact on unhealthy weight gain in primary school children. Over the period of the project there was a wealth of information provided that set out the processes and outlined the major strategies to meet each of the ten objectives of the project. A series of final reports were produced containing the findings/lessons learned from this important initiative. Useful links for professionals addressing obesity prevention
