'Go for your life' Teacher's Resource

Congratulations on making the first step to prioritise healthy lifestyles in your classroom! No doubt you’ve already had an informative and fun filled visit from the ‘Go for your life’ Community Education Program, if you haven't yet been visited by the Community Education team and would like to organise to do so, download a Schools expression of interest form (241kb MS Word) and send it back to us at goforyourlife@dhs.vic.gov.au

The teacher's resource aims to provide you with a range of activities and ideas to encourage the continuation of 'Go for your life' key messages of healthy eating and physical activity in your classroom. Have a look at what other Victorian schools are doing to promote healthy lifestyles in our 'Healthy schools showcase' and also find out what other health promotion programs are out there to assist you in creating a healthy school environment!

Here's an activity to get you started!

A Healthy me
Equipment: Instructions
  1. Give each student an A4 piece of paper with the outline of a body on it. Students can personalise their humans by drawing facial features such as a eyes, nose, mouth and hair.
  2. On the right hand side of the page ask students to draw the physical activities they do to keep healthy, for example games they play, sports and hoola hoops, skipping ropes.
  3. In the stomach ask students to draw the foods and drinks they consume to stay healthy.
  4. On the left hand side of the page ask students to list how being healthy makes them feel. Simple one or two word answers or short statements are ideal, for example, happy, energised, great.
  5. As a class, collate a sample of answers from each student, to create a large butcher paper ‘Healthy Me’ poster. This can be named after the class such as ‘Healthy 3B’. Put this on display in a prominent location for students to view everyday. This is a reminder of how easy it is to be healthy, but more importantly, how fun it is!

These ‘Healthy Me’s’ can be put on display on students' lockers/tubs, the back of their chairs or around the classroom.
