Kids - 'Go for your life'Health professionals play an important role in supporting families to enjoy healthy eating and physical activity. Kids – ‘Go for your life’ is working to support health professionals to create healthier local communities, schools, early childhood services and families and promote the six healthy eating and physical activity messages.

The Kids - 'Go for your life' six healthy eating and physical activity messages have been selected as key habits to improve the health of Victorian children. The Kids – ‘Go for your life’ Health Professionals’ Network provides an opportunity for health professionals to work in partnership with Kids - 'Go for your life' initiative and be supported with information, resources, professional development and networking opportunities.

Children and Active Transport Forum - Tuesday 6 October 2009

Download the full agenda (259 kb, pdf) and registration form (14 kb, docm) for the Children and Active Transport Forum, to be held Tuesday 6 October 2009 at William Angliss Institute in Melbourne.

This state forum is an exciting opportunity for those wanting to better engage children in active transport. Attendees will gain an awareness of the need to better engage children and their families in walking and riding in their local community, as well as an understanding of the key actions that need to be taken, and strategies that can be used, to address the issue locally.

Registrations close October 2. Places are limited and early registration is encouraged.

Working with children's settings

The Kids - 'Go for your life' Award Program helps health professional work with primary schools and early childhood services to create healthier environments. The program provides health professionals with tools to access motivate and support settings.

Planning with Kids - 'Go for your life'

With Primary Care Partnerships and health promotion agencies across Victoria developing their plans for 2009-2012, the Kids - ‘Go for your life’ Health Promotion Planning Tool (277kb, doc) has been compiled to provide some support. The Planning Tool provides information that will assist Primary Care Partnerships and agencies to identify physical activity and/or healthy eating as a health promotion priority, and gives guidance in selecting appropriate strategies, namely the use of the health promoting school model and the Kids - 'Go for your life' program. Primary Care Partnerships and agencies such as yours are encouraged to include the information provided in the Planning Tool in their plans where relevant, whether it be as is or modified to suit their needs.

Filling the Gaps

Filling the Gaps, managed by Royal Children’s Hospital and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, supports health professionals by:
  • Developing parent tips sheets on healthy eating and physical activity for health professionals to provide to families
  • Providing expert advice through Background papers for each of the Kids - 'Go for your life' healthy messages
  • Review and mapping of healthy eating and physical activity resources

'Go for your life' Healthy Canteen Advisory Service

Nutrition Australia’s 'Go for your life' Canteen Advisory Service supports schools to implement the Department of Education School Canteens and Other School Food Services Policy and ‘Limit occasionally food’. They can provide expert advice to health professionals and school and canteen staff though the advisory phone service on 1300 73 98 99. Read more…
